Home School Classes – Beginners (2026)

For high school age students wanting to learn woodwork. Prepare yourselves to build terrific timber projects.

Attend for 1 term or you can decide to attend all 4 terms for 2026, just pay by the term via the website during the relevant school holidays.

Sign up for the time and day you would like for your child each term. The days are suitable for all the terms in 2026. Places must be paid for to secure your child’s spot. Attend the Woodchix workshop at 95 Great Western Hwy, Emu Plains and pay the teacher your $10 each visit. There will be information and talks one day each time slot per term on apprenticeships and other career options. Parents will be notified when the careers talks are to happen each term.

 

Cost: $220 per Woodchix term + $10 per visit.
Minimum students: 4 (per class)
Maximum students: 12  (per class)

 

Class Scheduling Disclaimer
Please note that if a scheduled time slot does not meet the minimum enrolment requirement, we may need to consolidate classes. In such cases, parents will be notified in advance, and students may be moved to an alternative time slot to ensure classes can proceed effectively.

Begins with WHS and safety with hand tools and all machinery. Students will be instructed on appropriate tools for their age and competence. A workshop safety sheet will be filled out covering all tools used, competency of tool use (3 times for each tool) and will be signed by the student and teacher. Teaching is provided by qualified timber teacher with 20+ years’ experience, holding a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (40116LLN) and a Certificate III in Cabinet Making – Furniture.

 

Cost:

  • $220 per term (paid before term begins) + $10 per visit
  • Includes GST, glues, screws, nails, paints, finishes, sanding paper and timber, just bring yourself
  • No refunds once the term starts; a $15 admin fee applies for refunds requested before the term starts
  • Payment secures your preferred day and time; unpaid bookings may lose their spot

What to bring / wear

  • Enclosed leather or steel-cap shoes (no runners), hair tied back, no loose clothing
  • PPE and WHS compliance are mandatory; students without correct PPE cannot participate, the teacher’s decision is final.
  • Bring water and a snack, classes run 2 hours

 

Students will be consistently reminded of all safety aspects of all the tools they will be using and shown the skills and correct techniques to develop while working on their projects.
